We've Released a Custom Dashboard Auto-Generation Feature
You can now automatically generate dashboards, used for summarizing information on Mackerel, based on built-in Mackerel templates within Custom Dashboards.
When creating a custom dashboard, select "Generate custom dashboard from template" to proceed to the creation screen. You can also create a custom dashboard in the conventional way by clicking "Create custom dashboard manually".
After entering a title, edit the memo and custom URL as needed, and select a template. Only the "Three tier architecture template" is available at this time.
The "Three tier architecture template" is designed for three-tiered environments: a Web tier running Apache or Nginx, an App tier running applications in Go or JVM, and a DB tier running MySQL or PostgreSQL. Select the corresponding tiers within Mackerel for each.
Clicking "Create" will generate a dashboard displaying metrics for the selected tiers, as shown below.
Currently, widgets are automatically generated for each tier when the following Mackerel official metric plugins or cloud integration metrics are being collected. We plan to expand the supported metric plugins and cloud integrations in the future.
- Web Role
- App Role
- DB Role
Additionally, if System Metrics are being collected by the mackerel-agent or mackerel-container-agent for each tier, a widget for viewing system metrics will be created automatically.
We hope that this feature will serve as a starting point for those who are unsure about what kind of dashboard to create.
As previously announced on the Mackerel blog Mackerel will continue to evolve as an observability platform - Announcements, we've expanded the features available in the Free Plan as of August 26th, 2024. You can now create one custom dashboard, a feature that was previously unavailable in the Free Plan. We encourage you to give it a try!
For more details on custom dashboards, please refer to Using Custom Dashboards - Mackerel Docs.
We've Changed the Notification Method for Microsoft Teams Notification Channels
As previously announced in Beginning in July 2024, receipts will be emailed directly to the owner, and you'll also have the option to reissue them if needed. This change will start with your August 2024 billing statement, and more - Announcements, we have changed the notification method in response to the discontinuation of Microsoft Teams' Incoming Webhook connector.
We have updated the notification setup instructions in Microsoft Teams notifications - Mackerel Docs to reflect the new notification format, so please review them and make the necessary changes. Your existing Microsoft Teams notification channels will continue to function by simply replacing the URL with one generated using the method described in the instructions.
With this change, we have adopted the Adaptive Card format, which allows some Markdown syntax to be reflected in the notification content. Additionally, you can now send mentions by specifying user IDs in the format <at>****@****.onmicrosoft.com</at>
.
Please note that there are also visual changes due to the switch to the Adaptive Card format.
You can continue to use Incoming Webhook connectors created with the old method until they are discontinued by Microsoft Teams.
Muted Monitor Now Remain Muted When Updated from the Console
Before, updating a muted monitor from the console would accidentally unmute it. We've fixed this, so now the mute status will stay in place when you make updates.
This change addresses feedback we received about the inconvenience of having to re-mute monitor after updating them. Please note that a monitor updated from the console will no longer be unmuted.
When updating via the API, the behavior remains the same as before. The update will follow the "isMute" setting, and if it's unspecified, the monitor will be unmuted by default.

This enables user authentication for Mackerel, and you can also configure whether SAML authentication is mandatory. Additionally, you can control access and permissions to each organization using attribute mapping.
This feature is especially beneficial for customers managing numerous users and organizations who face challenges with user management and security.
